Designing and developing Spendhound’s core renewal management experience and integrations Case Studies
SpendHound is a free renewal management software and startup within YipitData (backed by Carlyle and Norwest venture partners). Their goal is to help companies save time and money by creating exceptional products to help them build a culture of efficiency within their organization.Unlike SpendHound’s competitors who do something similar but cost $50k/year, YipitData saw huge opportunity in companies being able to manage their SaaS spend for 100% free, forever.
At the ideation stage of SpendHound, the team approached Datarockets to help them think through the best way to architect their web platform from scratch to provide the best experience for their renewal management tool. They needed an innovation partner that could work with them long term, and support them as they iterated through different versions of the tool, and respond to their needs as they arose around major milestones.
The entire SpendHound experience had many moving parts. An exceptional renewal management product, a complex back-end system and an innovative distribution strategy all needed to be accounted for when architecting and designing their platform.
When thinking through the UX and design for SpendHound’s renewal management tool, we focused deeply on optimizing UX by reducing complexity of data heavy interfaces. To achieve this we looked at the many successful data heavy interfaces for lessons, collected user feedback, and utilized navigation and interaction techniques and incorporated different methods for conveying data (text, colors, contrast, human-interaction, etc) and we conducted user studies to identify at what points of the experience is best to display the required information.
To achieve the best renewal management experience, we leveraged design and integrations tremendously. We wireframed and created pages that would showcase Spendhound’s functionality. We designed a modification to their data processing experience to factor in their unique distribution strategy alongside information from their user’s vendor information. We crafted a strategy that would integrate their renewal consultation seamlessly with the rest of their renewal solution. Moreover, SpendHound isn’t just any application, it’s a SOC2 certified tool purpose built for data security.
Behind the scenes of SpendHound is a complex data automation operation, where many processes and third party softwares are involved – including ERPs, spend and access management products and contracts. To solve for this, we needed to build a set of integrations and an AI based contract processing product to tie everything together in an efficient and intuitive manner. We ensured everything could be accessible from one interface. We also needed to make sure key analytics and the health of the platform could be monitored easily.
Overall, our collaboration with SpendHound and YipitData was a great success and it’s become a part of our own toolkit. In a short amount of time, we were able to craft a unique and highly effective renewal management platform that is a new standard on its own. We architected and designed a renewal management experience that not only showcased their incredible product but also made the operations behind the scenes more efficient and successful. And finally, we laid the foundation for future iterations of the platform to incorporate new features, tools and new distribution strategies.
