Aging Compass is a web directory created to help families in Fort Wayne, Indiana, easily find the best senior care options. The platform combines data and insights to give families a clear picture of their options and help them make informed decisions.

Challenge

When the founders of Aging Compass came to us, they had a clear problem they wanted to solve. Families in Fort Wayne were struggling to find reliable, transparent information about senior care services. There were so many senior care services, but no easy way to find all of them, compare them or figure out which one was the best fit.

Their goal was to create a platform that:

  • Allowed users to search by location, care needs, and other criteria.
  • Supported multiple categories of service providers
  • Allowed service providers to be listed on the platform and showcase their services, testimonials, and reviews
  • Had a simple admin panel to manage all the information and invite service providers

Approach

Adapting design to audience

While brainstorming the target audience portrait for Aging Compass, we identified that it should primarily cater to individuals seeking elderly care services for their parents. This led us to focus on designing the app with 40- to 60-year-olds in mind. This presented an interesting challenge and significantly influenced the outcome: a clean, minimalist design with a subtle retro touch. Simple layouts, clear fonts, and minimal clutter ensured that users could find what they needed without feeling overwhelmed.

Simplifying the scope

With just three months to take Aging Compass from concept to launch, maintaining focus and efficiency was paramount. Together with our client, we made strategic decisions to simplify the MVP’s scope while preserving the essential features for end users. By leveraging out-of-the-box solutions, we also reduced time to market:

  • Simplified Payments: We opted for Stripe Checkout and the Stripe Customer Portal instead of building a custom payment interface, enabling secure and reliable transactions with minimal development effort.
  • Reviews via Google: Instead of developing an in-house review system, we utilized the Google Places API to pull ratings and reviews from Google Maps. This provided users with trustworthy information while significantly cutting development time.
  • Efficient Content Management: We integrated Payload CMS, empowering the client’s marketing team to manage content updates independently. This eliminated the need for custom CMS development or ongoing content management support from our team.
  • Service Provider Onboarding: To streamline the process, we implemented a concierge onboarding approach rather than building a complex admin panel for service providers in the first version. This not only saved time but also allowed the client’s customer success team to establish close relationships and gather early feedback from providers.

 

Results

Aging Compass launched in January 2025 with excitement and a TV ad campaign to spread the word. The platform offers families in Fort Wayne a trusted, easy way to find the best senior care options. It reflects Aging Compass’ mission to provide transparency, trust, and quality care, helping families make informed decisions.
